Bob Marley’s Zimbabwe was released in the year 1979 and appeared on the album Survival, the song was a support towards the oppressed African majority fighting the British Colony rule. Marley was later invited to perform at the Independence Celebrations of Zimbabwe in 1980, although the concert was halted by riots Marley still persisted on stage while tear gas filled the air.
The chorus bridges the main theme and message of the song, each individual has the right to decide their own destiny.
Natty Dread it in-a (Zimbabwe);
Set it up in (Zimbabwe);
Mash it up-a in-a Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);
Africans a-liberate (Zimbabwe), yeah.
